FAQs

  • To make the most of remote guitar lessons, you'll need access to the following:

    1. Your guitar (if you’re using an electric guitar, please make sure you’re plugged into an amplifier that is positioned close enough for your tutor to hear).

    2. A laptop or computer running an up-to-date version of Windows/Mac OS, or an iPad/Android tablet. Although it is possible to use a smartphone for your lessons, it is not recommended due to the limited screen size.

    3. A webcam and microphone; these can be either built into your device or connected externally.

    4. An internet connection with minimum upload/download speeds of 3mbps. We recommend using a wired ethernet connection where possible as this gives a more stable connection, however wireless connections also work well.

    5. Any other equipment you'd like to use, e.g. a music stand.

  • Whilst we strongly recommend you have weekly lessons to ensure the most efficient progress, it is not essential. Some students may only need or be available for fortnightly, or even monthly sessions, and we will work to accommodate this. Please email us at booking@cdmacademy.co.uk to discuss your requirements.

  • We have found 30 minutes to be the ideal time for one-to-one lessons, however we appreciate that this may not suit everyone. If you are interested in 60 minute lessons, please email booking@cdmacademy.co.uk to discuss availability and prices.

  • Whilst we encourage all students to commit to regular lessons to ensure maximum progress, we understand that this is not an option for everyone and are happy to provide ad-hoc individual lessons where availability allows. Please note that if you do choose to pay for lessons individually, you won't receive the free additional benefits that are included in the Monthly Plan.

  • Yes! We are able to guide you through exams with Rockschool, Registry of Guitar Tutors (RGT), and can even help you prepare for GCSE/BTEC/A-Level performances, band/college/university auditions, and competitions. Past students have won songwriting competitions, been awarded festival performance opportunities, and have gone on to study music at university.

  • Due to the level of independent study required, we advise that remote guitar lessons are most suitable for ages 12+, or students performing at an intermediate level. However, there may be exceptions to this and we will review each case individually. If you are unsure whether remote lessons are suitable for you, please contact us on booking@cdmacademy.co.uk to discuss your requirements.

  • We completely understand that some parents may wish to accompany their child during their lessons, and all parents are welcome to sit with their child during the session.

We are mindful that some students may feel added pressure with a parent present and this can sometimes hinder performance, so we suggest that sitting in a separate room within ear shot can be a good solution if this is the case.

If you choose the Monthly Plan, all sessions will be recorded and available to download at any time, therefore parents are also able to listen back to their child's lesson at a time of their choice.

  • We understand that you may need to cancel a lesson from time to time. Depending on the type of booking, we'll either reschedule your lesson, give you a refund, or issue you with a 'make-up credit' which can be redeemed at a later date, providing that you give us at least 72 hours advance notice of your cancellation. Our full cancellation policy can be found in our Terms and Conditions.
